For over 30 years Robert ‘Max’ Maxfield has worked alongside more than 25 Academy Award-winning actors, producers and directors on some of Hollywood's most memorable projects. He has recently performed as the Boom Operator for AMC’s The Walking Dead for four seasons. The TWD Sound Department received a Cinema Audio Society nomination for Outstanding Mixing for three consecutive seasons. In 1996 his department was Oscar-nominated for Best Sound for the film Twister. Robert has been featured in his industry trade journal Sound & Picture and in his Los Angeles IATSE Local 695 magazine (“Blood, Guts, Gore...and Chiggers”).
Robert has presented at the University of Florida Journalism School, the Colorado Film Forum, Boulder’s Film Incubator, his IATSE Local 479 in Georgia, and the Walker Stalker Con in Atlanta. He has been featured on the podcast Dead Fans Talking and the web site The Dead Connection. He was also featured twice by both the St. Joseph (MI) Gazette and WECT TV-6 (Wilmington, NC) for his work in the film business. His upcoming book The Boom Operator will be released later this summer. The book recounts Robert’s personal story about his life as it relates to the survival of his own apocalypse, the dramatic storytelling principles used in Hollywood productions, and his advice to others for using these experiences and tools to turn their own lives into a heroic journey.
